5th CISM MILITARY WORLD WINTER GAMES
– LUCERNE 2025

From 23 to 30 March 2025, Switzerland will host the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games under the slogan Military Champions for Peace. The host city of Lucerne will welcome more than 1,500 athletes from over 40 countries.

Top military athletes will be given the unique opportunity to compete at the finest sports facilities in world-renowned winter sports destinations. The World Winter Games will be sustainable and environmentally friendly, and – in keeping with the motto, Friendship Through Sport – will foster friendship among the CISM nations.

In addition to the typical winter sports, competitions will be held in two year-round sports to allow nations without a winter sports tradition to take part in this major event.

The 5th CISM Military World Winter Games will be in line with Switzerland's efforts towards a green economy and a sustainable environmental policy. The Games will demonstrate that it is possible to host a major sporting event in an economically responsible, socially sustainable and environmentally friendly way. All sports competitions will be held on existing infrastructure and where appropriate will be reached by public transport.

With its short, direct transport routes and population of sports enthusiasts, Switzerland is the ideal host for athletes from all CISM nations.

Friendship through Sport!

CISM SWITZERLAND AND PLUSPORT JOIN FORCES

Inclusion in sport and through sport. The inclusion partnership with PluSport for the 5th Military World Winter Games is intended to help break down barriers, raise awareness and inspire people with and without disabilities to participate in sport together.

Inclusion is important

Unlike at many other sporting events, parasport athletes and athletes without disabilities compete side by side at the Military World Winter Games. This helps create a sense of belonging. In that regard, the Swiss CISM delegation, which is organising the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games, is sending a strong signal for the integration of parasports.

About us
Federal Councillor Viola Amherd

Snow sports have a long tradition in Switzerland. And Switzerland has had many opportunities to showcase its talent and know-how in hosting competitions of all sizes. In my role as Switzerland's defence and sports minister, I therefore fully support the implementation of the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games 2025.

Private Lena Häcki-Gross, biathlon athlete

For me, any support is worth its weight in gold. In particular, the employment as a temporary military officer helped me a lot to fully concentrate on my sporting career without having to worry about my financial situation. It is therefore a great honor for me to be able to represent Switzerland at the 5th Military World Winter Games and to give something back. At the same time, my career started in Central Switzerland, which makes it an even more special occasion for me.
